brief description: contribution to “comm.gr2000az” the exhibition of the State of Styria // space sharing aspects: digital room extension / digital multifunctional hybrid / interspace
The Interspace, Headspace and Room 12 projects are based on a common concept. The Post-Production room in the Digital Research & Development Center of the Styrian Chamber of Commerce is turned into a virtual room in Eggenberg Palace by means of a video conference line and large-screen projection. The data recorded in the palace is processed five kilometres away in the Chamber of Commerce. The interspace – an interface between environment and computer – developed by SPLITTERWERK unites reality and virtuality as an architectural environment. Functions move to virtual space, so that material real space becomes available for other use. The Room 12 project profits from this fact. Functions originally devised for Room 12 move to the virtual space “between” the Chamber of Commerce and Eggenberg Palace. A sort of room void of functions, a “free space”, is created that is ready to take on new functions. Within the “Eggenberg as a chip” spatial concept, the project thwarts – or complements (this lies in the eye of the beholder) – the existing exhibition concept. Room 12 becomes the “anti-chip”.
